This Is Us - Kyle

Previously on "This Is Us" viewers were left with quite the twisty ending.  Grandma and Grandpa stopped by to visit Randall and the kids, but Grandma and Grandpa were in the form of Rebecca and... Miguel??  Unfortunately, we didn't get an answer to the Miguel mystery, but in the latest helping of NBC's hit show, viewers got to were treated to how Randall got his name.  I will say it wasn't surprising his original name began with a K, after all there's Kevin and Kate.  But Kyle didn't really fit.

"WE HAD A DEAL" - Randall breaks the news to Rebecca that he's found his biological father, William.  He's been staying at the house for a week and all he knows about him is that he's got a cat and he has stomach cancer.  Rebecca listens to Randall and for a moment, you're not sure how she's going to respond but surprisingly she asks Randall if she could meet him.  Come to find out, Rebecca knew who William was, having met him 36 years ago, not long after Randall had been abandoned and brought to the hospital.  Rebecca tracked him down, if only to see where Randall came from.  She sees William's living quarters and realizes it wasn't the kind of place for a baby to be raised in, especially with the heroin sitting around. William assures the baby came from of love. He asks if he could check in on Randall from time to time but she decides against it. He understands and doesn't put up much of a fight.  It gives Rebecca some sort of reassurance knowing William isn't going to come back for him, but she admits she's having trouble bonding with the baby.  William tells her to give him his own name and gives her a book of poems by Dudley Randall.

Later, Rebecca arrives home to a tired Jack and the two admit to each other how it still hurts thinking about the baby they lost.  Now that they finally feel they're on the same page, they agree to rename their adopted son.  Rebecca hands Jack the book of poems and later on in the evening, she successfully breastfeeds her boy, saying "Hi Randall."

"MAKE THE BEST OF IT" - Back in present day, Randall takes William to his doctor's appointment (after much prodding in the middle of the street in their neighborhood) and finds out there isn't anything that can be done.  There are some experimental treatments, but it would only give William a few more months.  Randall tries to hide his heartbreak only to shed some tears, but his wife Beth reminds him to make the best of the time he has left with him.  He heeds her words and starts by asking William to tell him more about his biological mother.

"LIFE IS A FAMILY" - It's flashback time and it's the day the babies are being brought home from the hospital. Rebecca is overwhelmed, something Dr. K immediately picks up on but doesn't say anything while Jack is all gung-ho about getting their adventure as a family started.  Once they're home, it's non-stop stress for the new parents and during a quiet moment, Rebecca tells Jack she's having a hard time bonding with the son they adopted because he isn't latching onto her breast and she must seem like a complete stranger to him.  Jack assures her that "Kyle" doesn't hate her and even quips that he was a stranger when they met but he quickly took to her breast.

At the babies' doctor appointment, Jack tells Dr. K how Rebecca isn't herself and chalks it up to exhaustion but also tells him how she isn't bonding with their adopted son.  Dr. K reminds Jack that she is very likely feeling the loss of their third baby.  Jack says he lost the baby too, but Dr K tells him that she needs to be able to process that in her own way.  He points out how Jack was able to make lemonade out of this lemon but Rebecca may not be able to do it the same way he is doing it. Simply put, she needs time.

"TIME AFTER TIME" - It's the morning after the Hollywood party and Toby wakes up on Kate's sofa. He hears Kate singing in the bathroom and during breakfast he asks her why she doesn't sing in public.  Kate quickly shoots down the question and before their conversation could progress any further, Kevin bounds in all happy and determined to get started on that move he wants to make to New York.

"Wait, that was real?" Kate asks and Kevin nods. Turns out, Kevin's serious and wants to give it a go with a stage career.  He also assumes Kate is going to tag along, because we learn later on in the episode that she's his personal assistant.

Meanwhile, Toby wants to give Kate her day in the sun and later on show ups all decked out dressed as a chauffeur along with the red carpet.  He's set up a private performance for her at his aunt's nursing home.  Kate's a bit hesitant at first, but she nails the song, singing Cyndi Lauper's hit "Time After Time" and oddly it gives Kate the urge to get busy... in the janitorial closet.

Except they don't get far because Kevin calls (one of many throughout the day but Kate hasn't been picking up) and it's getting-it-on interruptus. Kevin needs her and Kate being the twin sister and a good one that that heads over to help her brother.  Toby, on the other hand is done playing second fiddle to Kevin, telling Kate how much he likes her and everything he's been doing to show her, but for once he wants to be put first.  Kate respond with "You have to, everyone has to." Ouch...

Kate shows up at Kevin's and find him in his walk-in closet, complete with its own mini-bar and the two have a heart to heart.  Kevin ends up firing his sister, telling her that it's time they both go their own way for a bit. Kate isn't so sure about this move, saying she doesn't know who she is without her brother. Kevin tells her he does and that she's going to love who she is without Kevin by her side.

Later on, Kate calls Toby over to apologize and he doesn't want to accept at first, that us until she waves a condom on his face.  Meanwhile, Kevin bites the bullet and gets on a red-eye to NYC, ready to start his new life.
